![]() ![]() The big asterix for us was the last point on the list of items that wouldn't be moved over: Client projects do not move over, but Basecamp 3 promised a workaround. First, we reviewed ‘ Moving Projects from Basecamp 2 to Basecamp 3’. There were, however, a few notes to share about the actual import. Tips for Migrating from Basecamp 2 to Basecamp 3 And we were able to update all active projects in Basecamp 3, with minimal ‘extra’ work. Basecamp allowed us to keep our older projects that we didn’t want to update in the Basecamp 2 option. Basecamp provides a ‘sticky bar’ that allows easy click-through between the two Basecamp versions. One of the most significant considerations that influenced this was keeping Basecamp 2 for existing projects for free if you only create new projects in Basecamp 3. Our Reasons for Choosing Basecamp 3Īs we were already with Basecamp 2, we figured that switching over to Basecamp 3 would present the easiest option when it came to project migration. We found that many project management platforms boasted tons of integrations, but when we tested them out, many just shared information rather than had the functionality embedded into them.Ī lot of free trials and YouTube videos later, we ultimately decided to switch from our current project management software, Basecamp 2, to Basecamp 3. We decided that we would prefer if most of the core tasks could be completed within the software application itself rather than externally when looking for a new project management application. Have True Integrations - with our current system, we found that we were using several external applications and then linking them to our projects (such as Google Drive File Management, Milanote Mood Boards etc.). For us, this equation needed to show a ‘return on our investment’. Our flexible company structure made more sense for us to find a product that worked on a single-use fee rather than a per-user or per-project model. We were looking for something that would fit our needs without adding unnecessary expenses. We wanted to move everything over rather than switch back to the old system when we needed to reference something.įit Our Budget - the project management apps are diverse in capabilities, but they span the spectrum when it comes to pricing. Simple Migration - with 100+ projects currently stored in our current management program (some archived and some active), we needed a solution that wouldn’t be a headache to import our Basecamp projects to another project management application. With a lot of different options, whichever product we chose would need to satisfy the following points: Once we started to look into options for project management software, we realized that this was a vast and diverse sector, so we needed to narrow down our wish list to help us figure out which products were contenders for our business model. We were also looking for tools that would make it easier to view how our projects were progressing, which would allow us to better plan our production schedule. The primary motivator was to improve our company efficiency and streamline both our internal and external communications. Recently, the Custom Fit Online team decided it was time to update our project management software. ![]()

As well as the hazards of the content itself, employees are often under intense pressure to meet performance targets, an anxiety that only adds to the inherent psychological toll (Newton, 2019). ![]() In being forced to parse this material, workers “do not escape unscathed” (Madrigal, 2017). However, the toll for those carrying out this kind of work, where hate speech, graphic images, and racist epithets must be carefully reviewed, is incredibly high, leading to depression and other mental health issues. In May 2018, for example, Facebook announced that it would be hiring 10,000 new workers into it’s trust and safety team (Freeman, 2018). The response is to dramatically expand content moderation teams. This framing, not incorrectly, points out that automated interventions will always be inherently limited, unable to account for the nuances of particular contexts and the complexities of language. The second approach is non-technical, stressing that hate speech online is a problem that only humans can address. Technical understanding of this content will inevitably be limited, explains researcher Robyn Caplan (quoted in Vincent, 2019), because automated systems are being asked to understand human culture-racial histories, gender relations, power dynamics and so on-“a phenomenon too fluid and subtle to be described in simple, machine-readable rules”. And yet the inventiveness of users and the ambiguity of language mean that toxic communication remains complex and difficult to address. Articles in computer science and software engineering in particular often claim to have studied the failings of previous techniques and discovered a new method that finally solves the issue (Delort et al., 2011 Mulla and Palave, 2016 Tulkens et al., 2016). Indeed over the last few years in particular, significant attention has been directed at abusive speech online, with huge amounts of work poured into constructing and improving automated systems (Pavlopoulos et al., 2017 Fortuna and Nunes, 2018). The first approach is technical, attempting to develop software models to detect and remove problematic content. The response to this rise has broadly taken two approaches to harm reduction on platforms. This means that astrometry can, in theory, detect relatively small planets orbiting far from their stars - a crucial advantage for scientists looking for Earthlike planets rather than the hot Jupiters favored by spectroscopy. In other words, in contrast to spectroscopy, the sensitivity of astrometric detections actually grows with the increasing distance of a planet from its star. This is because a planet with a long orbit causes a greater displacement of its star's location during the course of its orbit than a planet that remains in close proximity to its star. The closer a planet's orbital plane is to a face-on position when seen from Earth, the larger the component of its movement that can be astrometrically measured.įurthermore, whereas spectroscopy is at its best in detecting planets with short periods, orbiting very close to their stars, astrometry will excel in detecting stars of long periods, orbiting further away. ![]() perpendicular to the line of sight of the Earth-bound observer. Astrometry can only detect that component of a star's wobble that moves it to a different location in the sky - i.e. This is because astrometric observations cannot detect a star's displacement towards or away from Earth, as this does not produce any change in the star's position in the sky. Whereas spectroscopy works best when a planet's orbital plane is edge-on when observed from Earth, astrometry is most effective when the orbital plane is face-on, or perpendicular to an observer's line of sight. ![]() In several of its key characteristics, astrometry is an excellent complement to the spectroscopic method. Furthermore, unlike the radial velocity method, astrometry provides an accurate estimate of a planet's mass, and not just a minimum figure. Unlike transit photometry, astrometry does not depend on the distant planet being in near-perfect alignment with the line of sight from the Earth, and it can therefore be a applied to a far greater number of stars. The Gaia catalog has already helped to refine exoplanet size estimates made from transit photometry, but has not yet yielded any more potential exoplanets.Īstrometry is one of the most sensitive methods for detection of extrasolar planets. The European Space Agency's Gaia mission, which launched in 2013, is making wide-angle observations of more than a billion stars in our galaxy at an accuracy of around 20 micro arcseconds its first data release was in September 2016. However, followup radial-velocity observations of VB 10b did not detect the signal that would be expected based on the astrometric data, so most researchers consider it another false positive. As of February 2020 there is only one confirmed planet on the NASA exoplanet archive which is listed as an astrometric discovery, DENIS-P J082303.1-491201b, also known as VB 10b. Until recently, the level of precision required to detect the slight shifts in a star's position that indicate the presence of a planet was at the outer edge of technological feasibility. The fact that all of these claims, based on decades of meticulous observations, were subsequently cast into serious doubt, testifies to the immense difficulties confronting an astrometric hunt for planets. ![]() In 1960 Sproul astronomer Sarah Lippincott published a paper claiming that the star Lalande 21185 was orbited by a planet of roughly ten Jupiter masses, and in 1963 the observatory's director, Peter Van de Kamp, announced the discovery of a planet orbiting Barnard's Star. The tradition of planet hunting through astrometry nevertheless remained strong at Sproul, where Strand's announcement was followed decades later by two other contentious claims. Although the announcement was greeted with enthusiasm at the time, the claim has remained unproven and astronomers today are highly skeptical of Strand's results. As early as 1943 astronomer Kaj Strand, working at the Sproul Observatory at Swarthmore College announced that his astrometric measurements revealed the presence of a planet orbiting the star 61 Cygni. Astrometry is the oldest method used to search for extrasolar planets. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s also a feeling of exploration when it comes to water and sea. Small rivers flow into larger rivers, and these large rivers end up in seas or oceans, or sometimes lakes. This cycle is crucial for the survival of us as human species, but also for the survival of everything else living on this planet.Īnother way we could connect water to the symbolism of circulation is that rivers usually end up merging into seas. And then these sources of water evaporate, causing even more rain, and so the cycle continues. As rain falls, it creates streams, rivers, lakes, and seas. Sometimes, people used to take advantage of the river’s motion to power water mills, which would eventually lead to the creation of electricity using water’s raw moving power – which still plays an important role today. We use the water’s motion to move between continents and countries with boats and ships. This sort of motion was crucial for civilizations of the past and still is today. Whether it’s an ocean, sea, river, stream, or even rain, water is almost always connected to motion (see also: ocean symbolism).Īnd even when water is stationary, such as in lakes, it was created with the help of a moving type of water, such as rain or river. Water is a symbol of motion, and almost every time you think about it, you envision it as this moving entity. Or Romans, who built aqueducts in order to drive water to households, enabling each household to have a good stream of water which created prosperity and a good ground upon which the empire would grow. Think about Egyptians, who knew exactly how to use the power of the Nile to build farms and create produce that would drive the civilization to prosper. Throughout history, civilizations that had water and that knew how to use it were more prosperous and successful as a rule. A human can survive without food for up to 3 weeks, but one simply cannot survive without water for longer than a few days. It’s the source of life that’s needed for humans, plants, and animals to grow and reproduce. And when food is abundant, the conditions are perfect for humans to reproduce. Everything that we grow requires water, which in turn produces food. Water enables us to grow plants and to reproduce at a relatively fast rate. It’s the defining factor that keeps us ticking, and that enables all forms of life to exist on planet Earth. It’s the main factor that determines whether a planet is viable for life or not, and whether there is any possibility of life on those planets. Water also separates us from the rest of the universe. So do plants, animals, and everything else alive and kicking. Without water, we can only survive a few days. From irrigation to the Industrial Revolution, it’s been the key to almost every development throughout our history. What is more, water has been the main driving factor for the growth of human civilization for centuries. For adult men, 60% of their body composition is composed of water. More than 70% of Earth’s surface is covered by water. Without water, humanity would not exist – life on Earth would not exist, for that matter. It is the driving force behind human civilization. ![]() |
